Spurs looked impressive in their 3-1 loss to Brighton in the FA Cup on Saturday. More importantly, striker Harry Kane finally seems to be back to his best. His two contrasting goals, the first a searing shot from outside the penalty area, the second a scrappy rebound which he chased, indicated a level of desire that was missing before Antonio Conte arrived.

Southampton held off a tough challenge from Championship side Coventry City in their fourth-round draw, winning 2-1 thanks to a brilliant long-range strike from Stuart Armstrong and a 112th-minute winner from the former winger of Tottenham Kyle Walker-Peters.

Unfortunately, this extended match took its toll on Ralph Hasenhüttl’s players. Lyanco left on crutches due to a hamstring injury which could see the Brazilian centre-back out for up to 12 weeks. Fortunately, Albanian striker Armando Broja has recovered from his injury and will start.

The home team, meanwhile, will be without Eric Dier, Oliver Skipp and Japhet Tangaga; all three suffer injuries. In more positive news, manager Conte says new signings Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski are “working really well”. Both came on as substitutes at the weekend and are set to appear in the Premier League for the first time.

Southampton frustrated Tottenham when the two teams last met, just after Christmas. Although down to 10 men for much of the match, the South Coast side proved extremely tough to break and held on 1-1. They are clear on any serious relegation concerns and would surely be happy to leave North London with another point. If they do, it would be the first time since the 2003/04 season that they have avoided defeat to Spurs in both league fixtures.

For Tottenham, a win is crucial to keeping their Champions League football hopes alive for next season. History and form are on their side. They haven’t lost that game at home since a 2-1 loss in 2016 and have won seven of their 10 Premier League home games so far this season. Moreover, Southampton have lost to Spurs in 13 of the last 19 league meetings.

Here’s how they line up:

Spurs: Lloris, Royal, Sanchez, Romero, Davies, Reguilon, Winks, Hojbjerg, Son, Moura, Kane.

Southampton: Forster, Walker-Peters, Bednarek, Salisu, Perraud, Romeu, Ward-Prowse, Armstrong, Elyounoussi, Broja, Adams.
