Shaquille O’Neal threw a rager in Los Angeles on Friday night before the Super Bowl on Sunday. Shaq – who also goes by DJ Diesel – held his carnival-themed event “Shaq’s Fun House” and also headlined with his own DJ set performance.
In December, FN sat down with O’Neal to talk all things business, as he had recently acquired Reebok. These days, however, the former NBA star is all about fun.
He said his go-to nickname at the moment is “SHAQ means Shaquille has awesome qualities. I just try to make people smile, make people laugh. Some of that continues in his musical journey as a DJ.
“I don’t know what I’m going to play until I see the crowd. When I started, I was like, ‘Okay, I have to DJ an ABG party’. They are older, some kids, I’ll bring the classics – it never works. So I have to look and be like, ‘You’re an old man, I’m going to play ‘Jessie’s Girl’ for you. You look like a party animal, I’ll play you Weeknd, and you look like you smoke marijuana, so I’ll play you Nirvana. I just have to people watch in the crowd and play some music.
In Los Angeles on Friday, he shared the stage with artists such as Lil Wayne, Zedd and Diplo.
As for his setlist, O’Neal played “We Are the Champions,” a nod to the city where he won three NBA championships as a Laker, as well as hits from Future and Jack Harlow and EDM tracks. .
