Scotland v Ukraine live stream – how to watch World Cup qualifiers online, team news and more

The eyes of the world will be on the Scotland v Ukraine live stream, both for football and for other reasons.

Obviously, a simple football game fades into insignificance when played out against the backdrop of war, but equally, it is not a meaningless kick. Instead, it’s a 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifier, which will decide which of these two teams has a chance of making it to the final in Qatar later this year.

Moreover, the Ukrainian team will play for the millions at home who have endured horrible hardship over the past three months. A win here won’t remotely make up for all they’ve been through, but it could provide a rare moment of joy.

As legendary striker and former national coach Andriy Shevchenko told BBC Sport, “We have to play for the fans, for all of Ukraine, for those who are at home, for those who defend the country and for those who left the country.”

This puts the Scots in a rather delicate position; people all over the world will support Ukraine, so victory would taste bittersweet. But from a purely sporting point of view, Scotland will be desperate to reach their first finals since 1998. Ukraine at least passed there more recently, in 2006, but they have also missed this stage on several occasions since. Make no mistake: this game matters.

The winner of this game will face Wales this weekend, with the winner of this game confirming their place at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Find out who stands a chance by watching Scotland v Ukraine live stream.

Scotland vs Ukraine Live: Team News

The Ukrainian players have, for obvious reasons, not had the easiest preparations for this semi-final of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

With the domestic league suspended since the invasion of Russia, half the squad had to maintain their fitness as best they could through a training camp in Slovenia and friendlies against clubs in Germany , Italy and Croatia.

The other half of the squad has been spread across Europe’s top clubs, with the likes of Oleksandr Zinchenko, Roman Yaremchuk, Andriy Yarmolenko and Vitaliy Mykolenko all in attendance today.

Scotland, meanwhile, will be without injured Kieran Tierney, Ryan Jack and Nathan Patterson. Boss Steve Clarke will hope Liverpool’s Andy Robertson – Scotland’s captain – has recovered from his last effort (and disappointment) in the Champions League.

Here’s how they line up:

Scotland: Gordon, McTominay, Hanley, Cooper; Hickey, Gilmour, McGregor, Robertson; McGinn; Adams, Dikes.

Ukraine: Bushchan, Karavayev, Zabarnyi, Matviyenko, Mykolenko, Stepanenko, Yarmolenko, Malinovsky, Zinchenko, Tsygankov, Yaremchuk.
