My Essential Pre-Game Playlist Songs – The Roundtable

Every athlete prepares for a game in a different way. Everyone has their own rituals, whether it’s putting their socks on a certain way, eating a certain snack before a game, or making sure they take to the pitch and warm up the same way. way every time. But no matter what, most athletes put on their headphones and listen to music.

Music plays a big role in getting athletes into the right headspace. I’d like to share my essential pre-game songs with you. You may be able to add some to your reading list.

To start: “Till I Collapse” by Eminem. This song just keeps me going. Eminem starts by telling you that you’re going to feel weak and tired and just want to give up, but he says you can’t, you have to find your inner strength and take it out of you. You have to find that motivation to not give up and not be a quitter. Damn, I got goosebumps just reading the lyrics, let alone listening to them. In my opinion, every line after this intro is so good. It’s easy to shake your head and get fired up.

“My Time” by Fabolous ft. Jeremiah. A bit of a throwback. I think the message of this song is really strong. The chorus highlights the fact that you can’t worry about the past and you have to stay focused. When it’s your time, you have to put it online. It’s just a message from when you get your shot to grab it and give it your all. Great hype.

“Can’t Be Touched” by Roy Jones Jr. The rhythm is just immaculate. It’s music that makes your head dance, it’s aggressive and it makes you want to go out and fight. I think my favorite lyrics are towards the end, he sings “you won’t win because I won’t lose!” It just pisses me off.

“Flex” by Polo G, Juice WRLD. I mean it’s just a good song. I’m not sure what motivation or inspiration there is; but that’s just an atmosphere. Polo G is so good right now, and he hasn’t even started to peak. It only gets better. Juice, rest in peace, is the perfect complement to Polo G. Such fluidity and flowing lyrics.

“All The Above” by Maino ft. T-Pain. “I’m on a mission to be what I’m meant to be. I’ve been through pain and heartache, struggle is nothing but love. Quality opening text. It continues to inspire from there. Maino talks about his challenges ahead and how he won what he got. Something all athletes want to do; win and fight their way to the top. You almost have to struggle, it makes you appreciate the final destination.

“Dreams and Nightmares” by Meek Mill. Wait a minute, did you think I was done? This song starts slow, Meek is kind of talking to you. He says he used to pray that times like this would rhyme like this, so he had to grind like this to shine like this. Then it picks up and gets more intense and you feel the energy coming out of Meek. I remember the Philadelphia Eagles played this in their Super Bowl championship run and it seemed to take off there. Because it’s an absolute banger of a song to get your sips too.

These are my essential songs, the tip of the iceberg. There are so many good songs. If you want to share your pre-game songs and why you love them. Email me at [email protected], you might find your song in an upcoming issue.
