Seeing Liverpool at this stage is no surprise; they reached the final in 2018 and 2019 and are in fine form in all competitions this season. But the presence of Villarreal is a shock. The current Europa League holders have only come this far once before, in 2006, and are only seventh in La Liga.

But Jürgen Klopp’s men would do well not to write them off. Villarreal have plenty of quality and have beaten Juventus and Bayern Munich to reach the last four. They will certainly feel that they can go further here.

They will have to do so without star striker Gerard Moreno, however, for the first leg at least, while former Liverpool left-back Alberto Moreno will also be out. Francis Coquelin is fit to play, however.

Liverpool’s only major injury absence is Roberto Firmino, but with Mo Salah, Sadio Mane and Luis Diaz up front, and Diogo Jota among the substitutes, the Reds should be able to cope.

Here’s how they line up:

Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Konate, van Dijk, Robertson, Henderson, Fabinho, Thiago, Salah, Mane, Diaz.

Villarreal: Rulli, Foyth, Albiol, Torres, Estupinan, Chukwueze, Parejo, Capua, Coquelin, Lo Celso, Danjuma.

It should be an open and entertaining Champions League tie, although matching yesterday’s exciting game between Man City and Real Madrid is another matter. Anyway, you can read on to find out how to watch Liverpool vs Villarreal live stream.
