Earlier this year, Tidal featured curated playlists in celebration of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. The streaming service collected some of the civil rights leader’s iconic speeches.

Swedish company Aspiro launched Tidal in 2014. Jay-Z bought the brand in 2015 for $56 million. In 2021, technology company Square founded by Jack Dorsey acquired the majority stake in Tidal.

Jay-Z is still a Tidal cast member. Beyoncé, Rihanna, Kanye West, Nicki Minaj, Usher, Alicia Keys, J. Cole, Madonna and Calvin Harris are other recording artists who allegedly owned the company at one point.
